Heize – Star Single Review

This single was definitely not something I expected from Heize, especially as the first new single after 3 or 4 months. With her first mini album this year, Heize without a doubt showed potential both with her clean vocals and rap performances in each song.

Without much use of instrumentals, this song still shows power and beautiful composition. This song really defines and shows Heize’s vocal talent. The synthesizer and bass also really adds a strength to the song, setting a mood to the chorus. Each note that was executed was done perfectly making the flow of the song very natural. “Star” is a great example of a clean and simple song that shows talent and strength. This song also seems very genuine through her vocal tones and the well composed lyrics.

What seemed to really stand out the most throughout the whole song was the random pauses in the chorus as well as the powerful bass and the interesting bridge, specifically the random stretched out note Heize decided to chose. It is very noticeable during the bridge of the song. I do like that she also included a rap verse which she is widely known for. Another detail of “Star” that attracted me was the bits of acoustic guitar during the bridge. It would have been nice to hear a bit more acoustics throughout different sections of the song.

I would give this single a 7 out of 10 for it’s creative simplicity as well as its great lyrics. Even though “Star” is a slow song, it still produces a kind of strength that drives the song in different emotional directions. If this a sneak peek into her next mini album or album, it is definitely something to look forward to.

Keep up with the groove! (Even if this is a slow song)
